JOSH GRIDER - DATES

Friday, September 09, 2005

God bless the victims of the storm and my some degree of normal return to them soon. My prayers are with them as I know yours are.

It's Friday and we go on about 10:00 tonight at Poodie's. The Mike Mancy Band will follow us, I hope you are there.

I am giving up on weekly updates for this journal entry. They happened for a while, but they have definitely tapered off. Now that I've said that I'll probably start doing a new one everyday. That's how it goes.

I am very happy that the NFL has kicked off another season. My team is the Bears and I can't tell you how it warms my soul to have my favorite ESPN writer (Bill Simmons) picking them as the sleeper team of the year. Go to http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050908 to read a great article, and not just because he shows love to the Bears.

Why do I root for Chicago, some of you may ponder. Well the truth of the matter is that my hometown, Las Cruces, NM, is geographically far enough from any major sports team that you can't really feel like you have a home team to root for. There isn't a pro sports team in the state, let alone a pro football team within 400 miles. Maybe Arizona, but who roots for them?

I was in first grade when the Bears won their only Super Bowl (I hear FHM magazine has a great article about that team in this month's issue) and jumped on that bandwagon and have yet to fall off, though the trail has been quite rough. The Refrigerator? Jim McMahon and his shades? Walter Payton? Mike Singletary (fellow Baylor alum)? What first grade aspiring football star wouldn't love that team. They were on the cover of Time magazine, and had a music video, "The Super Bowl Shuffle". They became my team and I am loyal like an old dog so I haven't given up on them, and it was awesome to see Bill Simmons backing the Bears as well.

Tomorrow night we're going to George's (come early, it's gonna be packed) and next week I'll be in College Station at Uglie's Thursday for 5 man acoustic jam with Stoney, Brian Burke, robert Henry, and the lead singer of the Eli Young band, who I've yet to meet. We'll stay and do a full band show on Friday and go to Houston (Sidecar Pub) with Honeybrown on Saturday. The Clubhouse show for the 18th got moved to October, I'll let you know more when I do.

We are taking a big leap and going with a new promoter to give "mama" the push we feel like it deserves. We have our fingers crossed but these new guys really have their heads on straight and I am excited to be working with them. I think we'll have some real good news to come soon.

Otherwise that is about it. I don't know when I'll write again, and I didn't proof read this so forgive the grammatical errors. I hope you got what I was tryin' to get at you. See you soon, come to a show and check out the new merch. Poodie's awaits, we'll see you soon.

Josh
