JOSH GRIDER - DATES

Friday, March 25, 2005

Hello friends! I hope everyone is well this Good Friday. I hope you take a minute or two to think about the significance of this day and this Easter weekend.

I've had a great week. The acoustic shows on Monday and Tuesday were great. I played with Brian Rung in Kerrville on Monday and have to say thanks to him for being so gracious, not to mention Gina and Bill. Check out Brian's music, it is really good stuff.

Tuesday I showed up to the Icehouse to play and met with Peter Dawson and Drew Kennedy. I can't say enough about those guys, they were very good to me. When we got up to play Jason Boland, Bleu Edmonson, Ryan Bingham, and Dub Miller were all in the crowd. I can't help but feel like a freshman at his first frat party when I'm around guys who have done or are currently doing exactly what I want to do. I get intimidated, but I've yet to meet anyone that isn't completely cool, complimentary, and encouraging. I guess we all share a common plight--trying to survive in the hardest business around.

We are playing on Saturday at Momo's. The South Austin Jug Band is the headliner, it should be a fun evening. If you aren't already planning on it, come out a show some support. We go on at 8, hope to see you there.

The beard is gone. Before I wend naked faced I shaved a sweet handle bar moustache. It faced a lot of opposition from Kristi, twice as much as the beard, and it was only a quarter the amount of the hair. I thought it was pretty classy but, again, who am I to argue with the one that says she's cool with the insane life I am trying to live.

I filled out a two NCAA tournament brackets on ESPN and am currently in 2,456,821st place with one and 1,257,964th place with the other one. My chances at the 10,000 dollar prize seem slim at this point, however both my choices for champion are still in the hunt. I felt a little better about the whole thing when I heard Dan Patrick himself was in 2.8 millionth place. They are playing two games tonight here in Austin and my brothers are going to be in town. Since we have the night off I imagine we'll spend our evening playing poker and watching basketball.

We have some good shows coming up, RRIH, Uglie's w/ Django Walker, Poodie's. I guess things are going okay, just hope they keep building. Hope to see you out soon. Call your radio station and request "South of the Border". See you somewhere down the road.

Well, as seems to be the norm lately, we picked up another last minute gig. We'll be at Adair's in Dallas this Friday with Peter Dawson. We haven't been up north in a while so I expect to see our Dallas fans out in force. As I understand it there isn't a cover and the opener (us) plays for tips. In light of that news, I suggest that each of you pretend there is five dollar cover, the tip jar is the bouncer, and just drop a 5 spot on your way through the door. Just a suggestion.

I am doing a couple of acoustic shows early next week and look forward to those. I'll be in Kerrville, with Brian Rung, at the Inn of the Hills Monday and in New Braunfels, with Peter Dawson and Drew Kennedy, at River Road Tuesday.

I hope you saw the page with all the radio stations listed, call in and ask for "South of the Border". Early indications are that the song will do well for a first effort by a fairly unknown artist. For those of you who don't know how it works, the stations we are sending the CD to report how many times they play it to the Texas Music Charts. They then count the number of spins and post the top 30 weekly on www.texasmusichart.com. The most spins wins, so by calling in and requesting the song you help us on our way to getting charted. Getting charted just helps open more doors; booking, management, more radio play, and all the things we need to be successful in this crazy business. Calling in and requesting the song really does help us, so if you only do it once a day you've helped a ton.

As my wedding date rapidly approaches I am faced with the shaving of my beard. I don't know how many of you have ever had a beard (ladies please don't answer) but you tend to get attached to them. It is time for mine to go, though. Kristi says she prefers me clean shaven, and who am I to argue? I'm just lucky she wants to wear my ring. For those of you haven't met her you are missing out, she is the lovely blonde in some of the pics on the site, and she is to coolest girl in the world. That's why I'm marrying her.

Back to the beard thing.

What really vexes me is the many options I have before I am actually clean shaven. Sweet chops and a goatee? The Hetfield beard? Chinstrap (doubtful)? Moustache with the dragdowns? I suppose I am going to experiment with all of these options on my way to a hairless face. It promises to be an exciting journey. I'll take some pics during the various stages so I can see what I might want to go back to one of these days. It really is the simple pleasures in life that bring the most joy...that and playing to 1000+ folks like we did the other weekend with Roger Creager (I know it's old news but it really was awesome)!

I hope to see you in Dallas or any gig we have coming up for that matter. Buy a CD if you don't have one, call your local country station, and help spread the word. We'll see you soon.

Hello friends! It's Friday and it feels good. We will be in New Braunfels tonight and Waco tomorrow night. I think it might just be acoustic in Waco, but I'm not sure yet.

Sorry I'm late, but thanks so much to College Station for showing us a great time again last weekend. Matt, you and your boys show great hospitality everytime. Chris and Ed, thanks for your promo work. We'll be back in College Station on April 8th with Django Walker, that should be quite a time.

I've picked up a couple of acoustic shows on the 21st and 22nd, I'll let you know more about those as they get closer.

I added a page to the website that shows most of the radio stations in Texas and their phone numbers. Call the one nearest you and start asking to hear "South of the Border". Early response to the single has been really positive and your requests will only help that out.

Check the calendar, catch a show, buy a CD, and sign the guestbook. We'll see you down the road...

I'm excited to get back out and play some music this weekend. I

Yeah, I know I said that I'd tell you Monday how everything went last weekend. Better late than never.

Opening for Roger Creager was one of the coolest things we've been able to do in a long while. There were 1400 people through the door that night. I haven't played in front of that many people in a long time, it felt really good. They had an actual backstage area, filthy as it was, it is always fun to be backstage. Thanks, again, to Brad for the hook up. Kirby, Roger thanks for taking a chance on us, and thanks to everyone who was at the show and gave us some love.

There is a forum on Galleywinter.com going about us, it is under the Texas Singer/Songwriter area, people are saying nice things, check it out. I got the first official radio report and 10 stations picked us up in the first week, according to the promoter that is a real good sign. We'll populate a good list of who is playing and get it up asap. We will be live on the air in Brenham on KHTZ 92.5 between 2:00 and 3:00 and on KORA 98.3 in College Station at 4:00 on Friday promoting Friday night's show at Uglies in CS.

We are going to be at the Hogstop Inn near Fredricksburg on 290 this Saturday. Kris and I will be opening a show for WT Special. It's an acoustic show, those are fun to do for a change every now and again.

Things are moving right along, I am in a suspended state of hope right now. We are as close as we have ever been to really making something solid happen for us. We cannot do it without your help. Hope to see you this weekend, if not we'll be in New Braunfels next weekend, and who knows after that. Sign the guestbook, let me know what's on your mind. Call your local radio station and request, South of the Border. See you soon.

Josh
